MATLAB Y Octave son potentes softwares de cálculo y programación para todo tipo de aplicaciones científico-técnicas. A continuación se centra en el lenguaje de programación propio de ambos entornos, cubriendo también otros temas, de carácter avanzado, como es el caso de las técnicas de visualización que, actuando conjuntamente en un mismo programa, permiten el desarrollo de aplicaciones de un nivel muy elevado pero, al mismo tiempo, sin grandes complicaciones en lo que a codificación de los programas se refiere. Finalmente, la inclusión de algunos temas de Matemática Computacional permiten, aunque sean de un nivel básico, que el lector se familiarice con las técnicas constructivas (algoritmos) con las que se afrontan problemas matemáticos de cierta complejidad cuya solución en muchos casos no era posible obtener sin acudir a una metodología numérica que se pudiera plasmar en forma de un programa informático. El proceso de aprendizaje de estas aplicaciones y de su lenguaje de programación debe complementarse con la realización de ejercicios prácticos que permitan poner de manifiesto lo estudiado. Es por ello que, en este libro, se incluyen numerosos ejercicios resueltos. Esta característica es el punto fuerte de la presente obra y por ello hace posible su utilización como un texto para impartir cursos de Informática de acuerdo con las especificaciones de los títulos de grado del EEES.
